Joint Legal / Financial Seminar on Divorce – January 28, 2011

The Atlanta Bar Association Family Law Section and the Family Law Division of the Forensic and Valuation Services Section of the Georgia Society of CPA’s are hosting their first Joint Legal/Financial Seminar on Divorce on January 28, 2011. The general program is targeted to both attorneys and accountants to help them understand the myriad of financial issues that must be considered in the context of a divorce. It will be held at the offices of the Georgia Society of CPA’s in Buckhead (3353 Peachtree Road, Suite 400, Atlanta, GA 30326).

This year’s planned agenda is:

Cobb County Judge Bodiford and Gwinnett County Judge Connor have confirmed their participation and we are waiting on confirmation from other judges.

9:00 – 9:40 a.m RapidFire – Using a fun, fast format, experienced family law attorneys and CPA’s will complete the statement, “When working with me, I wish you would….” (attorneys to accountants/accountants to attorneys), along with a short explanation of their answer. Coordinated by Debbie Gibbon CPA, Bennett Thrasher.

9:40 – 10:00 a.m  Break

10:00 – 10:55 a.m  Frequently Missed Tax Opportunities and Pitfalls – Including filing status and credits, rules about alimony and child support, carryover losses and deductions, property transfers, innocent spouse, retirement plans, and attorney’s fees. We are very excited about this jointly sponsored CLE/CPE program as other states have had hugely successful similar seminars. We believe that this is an important program to bring to Georgia, and with your help, we anticipate that this inaugural program will become an annual event.

    Brad,

Yes, registration is open to other professionals. The easiest way to register if you are not a member of the GSCPA’s or the Atlanta Bar is to call the GSCPA’s CPE Department at 404-504-2985. I look forward to seeing you there!
