Atlanta-based CPA firm IAG Forensics & Valuation has announced its plan to expand its primary service area to include North Georgia and Chattanooga, TN.

IAG has provided forensic accounting, fraud investigation, business valuation and litigation support services to Georgia’s family law and business litigation communities since 2003.  IAG boasts a reputation for quality, integrity and world-class customer service, as evidenced by the numerous “Best Of” selections IAG has received from the Fulton County Daily Report.  While the majority of the firm’s work has typically been in the greater Atlanta area, the IAG team has also done work throughout Georgia and across the US.

IAG employs CPAs, forensic accountants, fraud investigators and business valuation specialists who work as a team with their clients and their clients’ attorneys to provide litigation support with the goal of adding value to their clients’ cases.

“We see Chattanooga as a bustling commercial center, with thriving family law and business litigation communities,” said IAG Forensics Manager Steven Scott .  “We try to involve ourselves totally in the legal community which we serve, and to that end we intend to increase our presence in North Georgia and Chattanooga, and look for opportunities to sponsor events and talk to attorneys about what we do and how we might help with what they do.”

What is forensic accounting?

Forensic accounting is a specialty area of accounting - it is essentially investigative accounting work usually done in support of litigation, either criminal or civil.  But forensic accountants also assist in fraud investigations and analysis of complex financial transactions for purposes of business valuation, planning, decision making, evaluating controls, and identifying opportunities for process improvements.

Most of IAG’s work is done in the family law, business valuation, estate and business litigation arenas.

The benefits of using a Forensic Accountant

When it comes to forensic accounting, the goal is always accuracy, objectivity and articulation.  The benefit of using IAG’s experts is that they will capably do the work to arrive at the most accurate number, and then articulately communicate the substantive proof to you, your adversary and any potential court.

What are some techniques to keep your fees as low as possible?

Get your experts involved in your project as early as possible so that they are not scrambling at the last minute to get the information they need, can involve staff at appropriate levels, and efficiently schedule time on your project.

If possible, provide your documents in an organized manner, e.g., statements for accounts organized by account (not by year) in chronological order, oldest to newest.  This facilitates asset tracing and keeps costs down, but if it is not possible to provide your documents in an organized manner, IAG has experts on staff who can organize them for you.

Provide everything requested, completely and without duplicates.
Same with phone calls. Try to address multiple issues at one time and try not to ask the same question multiple times.

In other words, being organized will help your experts work efficiently and keep your fees as low as possible.

At IAG, there is never a charge for an initial consultation, and anyone with complicated financial questions is encouraged to call.  IAG also makes educational presentations at law firms and CPE events to help attorneys and litigants understand what role a forensic account can play in their cases, and how to get the most out of their expert witnesses.  IAG’s experts can appear at your office, virtually or in person, and give a presentation on any number of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Tax Return Basics for Attorneys
  • Excel for Lawyers – Top Useful Functions
  • How to Get the Most Out of Your Financial Expert
  • Business Valuation Basics for Attorneys
  • Complex Executive Benefits
  • Cross-Examining Financial Experts
  • Trust and Estate Litigation
  • Other topics of your choice!

IAG’s team looks forward to the opportunity to meet you in person to determine if and how we might be of service.
